Funny Cats in Boxes
Everyone knows cats love boxes. In this first picture handsome tuxedo Mittens thinks he’s hot. Tuxedo is the term used for cats who are black but have white feet, chest, and whiskers. He is elegant for sure. He also has a flat coat which means his short hair lies tight to the body and he hardly sheds.
In this second picture is my cat Cio Cio San (Japanese for Madam Butterfly). Cio Cio is not a butterfly but is fierce. She was a stray most of her first year so likes to challenge other cats to stay away. In the summer I tie her out with me. We live on a busy street so it is not safe any other way. Another danger is the coywolves (coyote wolf hybrid) in the woods behind our house. You would think she would be busy looking at birds and squirrels, but there was an old wine box. In typical cat fashion “if it fits, I sits.”
Of the people in our Cat Rescue, I was the one who had the time and knack for working with feral kittens. We had two at the same time. The black kitten in the photo, Darcy, was a stray along with his mother. The mother was easy to catch but Darcy avoided the homeowner until she found the poor kitten had been attacked and was injured. After vet care, he had to be quarantined in case what bit him was a rabid animal. So the poor kitten was never hardly handled until he was about four months of age. When he came to my house he immediately made friends with the other cats. The dark orange kitten in the photo is Blaze. He and his sisters were feral. Obviously, the two feral kittens felt safe together in their little box they chose as their place in the house.
